bangladesh women vs india women

That's the group stages done. The four teams have been locked for the semis. We have a two-day break before those games. The first semi sees England taking on South Africa on Wednesday (29th). Do join us then for that one. For now it's bye bye from all of us here.

Harmanpreet Kaur | India captain: Today, I think the way we bowled looked quite balanced and there was a lot of clarity. That’s something we will definitely take from this game. Pratika - our medical team will update on her. They are taking care of her injury, and hopefully, she will be back soon. (on the semis) It’s a very important game for us. I personally feel we’ve played really good cricket in the league matches. Now the next game is very crucial. Everyone has contributed whenever the team needed, and that’s something we’ll carry forward. We’ve always spoken about enjoying ourselves while playing, and I think that’s the key for us - to go out there and enjoy the semis. (on the squad players being given a chance) Yes, definitely. The way Radha bowled today gives us another option for the next game. Amanjot came back into the team and did her bit as well. I think whatever we planned, we tried to achieve. Apart from Pratika’s injury, hopefully, she’ll be fine too.

Nigar Sultana Joty | Bangladesh captain: (on the blow to her finger) It’s really pretty bad because I recovered the same thing that I hit back. So maybe it will take one or two weeks to recover. First of all, how we started the tournament gives us good momentum, definitely. And we played a few close games against England, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. Maybe there are a few areas where we could have done better - maybe we could have won those games. I think we’ve been working really hard as a group and have been playing together for a long time. We know each other well, and I think that helps us on the ground as well. We’ve included a few young players, and they’ve been giving their 110% on the field. They’re all champions, I’d say. They’ll definitely take a lot of positives from here and try to apply them in their lives. We just want to summarize the whole tournament, definitely. There are a lot of things we can take from here, but we should sit down and discuss what areas we could improve in. Maybe if we work on those, we’ll go further next time.

22:23 Local Time, 16:53 GMT, 22:23 IST: It's done. The match has been called off. After a lengthy break, the game started and we managed to get till 8.4 overs of the Indian innings - that's when the rain came again and that was that. India would be happy that they did the job against New Zealand which ensured their qualification. But concerns for them with Pratika Rawal going off hobbling after twisting her right ankle. We will have to wait for her status with regards to the semis. Coming to today's game, India opted to give their squad players a go and Radha impressed with a three-fer. All the five bowlers were among the wickets. Bangladesh would have been looking to finish the tournament on a high, but it was not to be. But they had a tournament to remember with a win against Pakistan and running England, South Africa and Sri Lanka close. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...

22:12 Local Time, 16:42 GMT, 22:12 IST: Steady drizzle and the pitch and the adjoining areas are covered.

22:07 Local Time, 16:37 GMT, 22:07 IST: More covers being brought on. This doesn't look good. Stay tuned.

22:05 Local Time, 16:35 GMT, 22:05 IST: The rain has gotten heavier and the players are walking off. The groundstaff are quick to bring on the covers. Play resumed at 20:05 local time after the initial rain break, and exactly after 2 hours of play, rain is back..

Rabeya Khan to Amanjot Kaur, no run, shorter outside off, Amanjot Kaur goes for a cut and gets an outside edge. The keeper has put it down again. She closed her mitts too early. 8.3

Rabeya Khan to Amanjot Kaur, no run, Review taken for an lbw by Bangladesh! This looks very close. Amanjot is probably in trouble.. Was a floated delivery around middle and leg, the batter tried to flick it away, but got rapped on the pads. No bat involved. It's pitching in line, the impact is line, but it's clipping the leg-stump. Umpire's decision stays

Welcome back for the run chase! Just a short innings break due to that rain break earlier in the day. The two openers are out in the middle and we are ready to roll again. Rawal who got injured earlier, hasn't come out to bat, it's Amanjot with Smriti..

Radha Yadav: I was nervous, won't lie. I took my time to soak it in. Tried to stick to the basics and kept things simple. I think that I am India's best fielder, I enjoy my fielding. I always look forward to such opportunities, always ready for it. Nothing new for me, but I always enjoy my time in the middle. We have been practising with the wet ball, our bowling coach makes sure we all do. This is our favourite ground, we get a lot of support at this venue.

Bangladesh batters lost 33 wickets against spin - the most by any side in this tournament

Revised target is 126...

21:13 Local Time, 15:43 GMT, 21:13 IST: Only 119 on the board for Bangladesh at the end of their 27 overs. The target will be revised by DLS but it's not going to be anything that's going to have India very concerned. The greatest cause of concern for India at the moment would be the status of Pratika who twisted her ankle badly and had to be helped off the field. Will surely hear more about it later. As for the action that happened after the rain break, Bangladesh just struggled to get going. Radha Yadav, playing her first game of the tournament, picked up a four-fer while also pulling off a brilliant run-out. Innings break is only 15 minutes. Back with the chase shortly.

Deepti Sharma to Sharmin Akhter, FOUR, oh dear, Pratika slips and falls on the ground and there's a lot of concern from her teammates who rush to check on her. Her right foot got stuck on the turf and her ankle got twisted badly. A stretcher is being brought out. Terrible scenes with the semis around the corner. She gets on her feet, which is good to see, and is being helped off by the physio. Swiped across the line by Sharmin, Pratika runs across at the midwicket boundary but overruns the ball as it plugs on the outfield. Amanjot Kaur to Sharmin Akhter, out Nigar Sultana Run Out!! Direct hit from Radha Yadav and there's some excitement among the Indian players. It's been referred. Oh wow, Nigar Sultana is short of her ground at the non-striker's end. Not good at all from the Bangladesh captain who should've shown greater awareness. The ball is cut straight to backward point and she wanders out thinking that there's no danger at her end. But this is Radha Yadav we're talking about, one of the best in the team. Picks it up and fires down the stumps in a jiffy. It's her first game of the tournament, although she has been on as a sub before. Nigar Sultana run out (Radha Yadav) 9(24)

Renuka Singh to Sumaiya Akter, no run, that's an excellent delivery to start off. How did that miss the leg-stump? Swung by many a mile and the batter got beaten due to the yorker. Missed the leg-stump by a whisker

Sumaiya Akter and Rubya Haider Jhelik are at the crease. Sumaiya Akter is on strike. Renuka Singh will open the attack

The players are out in the middle. They are waiting near the sidelines and now they disperse. The Indian fielders look charged up as the two Bangladesh openers now enter the field.

Right then, it's time for the national anthems.. First, it's Bangladesh and it will be followed by India's..

Pitch and conditions: The highs of 30 degrees will drop down to lows of 25. There’s 71% humidity, and we could have a few interruptions due to rain. Talking about the dimensions, from the University End - if that’s where you’re bowling from. I’m a right-hand batter - to my right, the off-side point boundary: 58 metres. Square leg: 53. Downtown: 66. And you’ve got small pockets behind square. What’s the wicket looking like? It’s a fresh surface. Today we have a fresh red-soil pitch. There’s a bit of grass over there, but I think it is only to bind the wicket together. It is very good, it’s a batter-friendly track, and it will remain so throughout the innings, both the first and the second. It plays much better under the lights. Not much to offer from the bowler’s perspective, because it is hard, there will be good, decent bounce. Both teams have good-quality spinners. We’ve seen on this wicket that spinners have gone for a lot of runs. So, if you have to counter spinners effectively, we’ve seen Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal use their footwork quite well. That is a very effective way of playing spin reaching to the length of the ball, covering the line, and having good control over your shots. You can access different areas of the ground. At this venue, the spin is very minimal compared to other venues we’ve seen in the tournament - the least amount of spin offered here in Navi Mumbai. - Mithali Raj and Jatin Sapru.

4.37pm local: Match reduced to 43 overs per side, first ball at 5pm.

4.30pm local: Things are moving quickly now. Stumps have been erected, supersoppers are doing the rounds and the two captains walk out for a briefing with the umpires.

4.25pm local: Weather looks much brighter at DY Patil Stadium. Covers are also coming off. The umpires walk out to the middle to assess conditions.

3.45pm local: Covers still on. Rain has reduced significantly but it's still quite dark and there's also a steady drizzle coming down.

STAT: First toss won by Harmanpreet Kaur for India Women in ODIs after losing eight on the trot - their joint-longest streak in the format, alongside as many for Mithali Raj between Feb 2006 and Jul 2006.

3.12pm local: Covers coming back on. It has gotten very dark above and rain is now lashing down as I type. Groundstaff charge out to the middle with the covers. Safe to say the 3.25pm start is out of the window.

Teams:

Bangladesh Women (Playing XI): Sumaiya Akter, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akhter, Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana(w/c), Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Rabeya Khan, Nahida Akter, Nishita Akter Nishi, Marufa Akter

India Women (Playing XI): Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur(c), Deepti Sharma, Uma Chetry(w), Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Shree Charani, Renuka Singh Thakur

Would you believe it, India have won a toss, breaking a long streak of luck not going their way.

Nigar Sultana | Bangladesh captain: Kind of good for us because our bowlers have been doing well. Have to give them a good total to defend. Was pretty difficult (getting over SL defeat). Have to move on and play our A game. The way our bowlers have been bowling, and looking at the conditions, 230-plus can be a good total.

Harmanpreet | India captain: We're going to bowl first. Because of the overcast conditions we thought bowling would be a good decision. She's going to debut today (Uma Chetry). Richa is resting. Two more players are resting - Kranti and Sneh Rana. Had the self belief that we can change this (after three losses).

India Women have won the toss and have opted to field

Toss to take place at 3.05pm local with start of play scheduled for 3.25pm.

2.53pm local: Drizzle seems to have stopped. Again it didn't last very long. They've removed all covers.

2.42pm local: Drizzling again and the covers coming back on. Harman had walked out to the middle in her match jersey with toss around the corner. She now heads back to the dressing room.

2.35pm local: Covers are being peeled off. It was a very short drizzle and we shouldn't have much of a delay if the weather holds.

Uma Chetry has been given her maiden ODI cap. She got it from Smriti Mandhana in the huddle. With Richa Ghosh taking a blow to her fingers in the previous game, Chetry gets her chance with the gloves today. Meanwhile, the latest from the venue is that the toss has been delayed and the covers are on. There was a brief drizzle which seems to have stopped for now.

2.19pm local: Can see covers coming on...

Update from Purnima Malhotra, our correspondent: "Hello from an overcast DY Patil. It's been raining on and off since morning. Richa Ghosh is doing some sort of a fitness test from the looks of it, and it was Uma Chetry who came for the keeping drills on the side wicket. That said, funnily enough this World Cup whoever is the first one to report to the side wicket hasn't featured in the XI."

2.05pm local: Hello and welcome to the final game of the league stages. It's India taking on Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai and while there is nothing on the line, so to say, it's an opportunity for the hosts to have a good workout before their semis against Australia at this same venue. Bangladesh, on the other hand, may be out of contention but they've definitely left a mark in this tournament. If not for their failure to close out a couple of games from strong positions, things could've been different for them. Nevertheless, it's a World Cup match against a high-profile opponent. What better way to bow out than to put on a grand show.

Preview by Purnima Malhotra

In the intervening hour between India and Bangladesh's practice sessions at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday, dark clouds gathered overheard. The cool breeze was in sharp contrast to the heat and humidity of Navi Mumbai over this week's action at the World Cup 2025. After India's session was wrapped up, Jemimah Rodrigues brought out a pickleball paddle to play fetch with her pet, who instead wanted some white-ball action and decided to field near where Fargana Hoque Pinky was taking throwdowns. A short, sharp spell of rain forced them all indoors and the main square quickly wrapped up - a precursor to what Sunday might also hold for the two teams.

India's last game, against Bangladesh, at Navi Mumbai faces a significant rain threat. As it is, with the league stages of the World Cup winding down, Sunday's double header carries only academic interest given the semifinals line-up is locked in. Yet, both teams have their own reasons to approach the dead-rubber with intent and focus.

Their qualification secured with just three wins, thanks to the many weather interruptions in Colombo, India's would be looking to nail that delicate balance between maintaining the winning momentum and workloads of regulars ahead of the knockouts. With the semifinal against defending champions Australia, who ruthlessly dismantled South Africa in Indore to finish atop, Inda have to find a way to preserve this rhythm they hit against New Zealand while also ensuring the players remain fresh for the high-stakes week ahead.

For Bangladesh, it is as much about pride as it is about final standings. Their fragile batting has often undone the games set-up by their impressive bowling attack, leaving them rooted to the points table with just a solitary win over Pakistan - who incidentally have more points all owing to washouts. On the back of five successive defeats since, if Bangladesh are able to pull off a surprise win against the tournament hosts, they can potentially even pip New Zealand for a sixth-place finish. And that would mean a significant USD 420,000 boost in ICC prize pool earnings over the USD 280,000 they're guaranteed now for a bottom-two finish.

When: Sunday, October 26 at 3 PM IST

Where: DY Patil Cricket Stadium, Navi Mumbai

What to expect: The pitch and conditions are among the best for a high-scoring game, provided the weather holds up. It's predicted to be a rainy weekend with about 75% precipitation expected on Sunday and, unfortunately, from morning itself.

Head to Head: India have won 6 out of 8 games (one tied) against Bangladesh, including the one in World Cup 2022. The only game they lost was in the 2023 bilateral series, wherein the last game also ended in a tie.

Team News

India: Only Harleen Deol and the four non-playing members of India's last playing XI turned up for the optional session on Saturday amidst a drizzle. Richa Ghosh did not keep wickets post the second drinks break against New Zealand after sustaining a blow to her finger, and might just be rested as a precaution ahead of the knockouts. If not more, at least Amanjot Kaur is likely to return for Renuka Thakur.

Probable XI: Smriti Mandhana, Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Jemmah Rodrigues, Uma Chetry/Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Sneh Rana, Sree Charani, Kranti Gaud

Bangladesh: The visitors could swap legspinners, bringing back Fahima Khatun for Rabeya Khan.

Probable XI: Fargana Hoque, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akhter, Nigar Sultana (c, wk), Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatum, Nishita Akter Nishi, Marufa Akter

Did you know?

-Indian spinners have picked 32 wickets altogether in six games - the most by any team in this edition

- Bangladesh have lost 27 wickets to spin in six games - the second most by a team in this tournament after South Africa (31)

- India dropped have 15 catches so far in this World Cup - the most among all the teams. Their catching efficiency of 64.2 is second from bottom, after Bangladesh (48.1).

- Pratika Rawal is 24 runs away from becoming the second player to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year after Smriti Mandhana (1259 in 2025)

What they said:

"She's fine, and the S&M team is taking care of it. I mean they are still discussing so I don't have the exact updates about it but she's fine. She looks fine." - India bowling coach Aavishkar Salvion Richa Ghosh's availability

"If you look at the 2022 World Cup, that was our first World Cup, and we were quite weak in the batting department. There was only one fifty, and that was from Pinky. But in this tournament, you can see around six or seven fifties. So, I think that's an improvement because scoring a fifty is not easy... Earlier, we had only one or two good teams in domestic cricket, but now there are six or seven. Before, most players came from North Bengal, but now we have players from Chattogram and Sylhet as well. Maybe their parents are also watching the matches now. Most people in Bangladesh are following this World Cup, which is a great inspiration for us. It motivates us to fight against stronger teams." - Sobhana Mostary, Bangladesh middle-order batter, on the team's improvements since their maiden World Cup
